Black Sabbath to Release First Official Book This October

Black Sabbath and Rufus Publications have announced the release of the band’s first-ever official book, The Masters Of Reality — Why Black Sabbath Matter, scheduled for publication in October 2026.

Created by renowned rock photographer Ross Halfin in collaboration with the band, the 500-page volume chronicles Black Sabbath’s history from the late 1960s through their farewell concert, Back To The Beginning, held in July 2025. Packed with rare photographs, memorabilia, and archival material—much of it published for the first time—the book also features new interviews with the band’s classic lineup: Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward.

According to Halfin, work on the project began two years ago. Although the book was originally intended for release shortly after Black Sabbath’s final performance, its publication was postponed following Ozzy Osbourne’s death. Halfin noted that Ozzy played an active role in the project and personally approved the final proofs before the farewell show.

The book will be available in three editions: two limited collector’s versions signed by all four original members and a standard edition. The deluxe releases include handcrafted presentation cases, fine-art giclée prints, and premium finishes. Prices range from £99 for the standard edition to £650 and £950 for the exclusive collector’s versions.

Described as the most comprehensive official publication ever produced about Black Sabbath, The Masters Of Reality — Why Black Sabbath Matter celebrates the band’s enduring legacy and its lasting influence on heavy metal.
