Spotify launches Music Video Charts Global, taking on YouTube in the music video space
Spotify has introduced Music Video Charts Global, its first-ever global chart dedicated exclusively to music videos. The ranking features the 50 most-viewed music videos on the platform and will be updated daily.
The chart refreshes every day at 6:00 p.m. ET, while every Tuesday Spotify will publish the weekly Top 10 through its official social media channels and Spotify for Artists.
The inaugural chart is topped by Shakira with “Dai Dai, ” while BTS occupies six of the top ten positions.
Alongside the launch, Spotify has expanded its tools for artists. Musicians can now upload full-length music videos through Spotify for Artists and submit them to Spotify’s editorial team for consideration in playlists such as Best New Videos, Top Videos Today, Live Performances, and House Party.
The move is part of Spotify’s broader push into video. The platform introduced Canvas in 2019, later expanded into video podcasts and video advertising, and added full music videos in 2024.
According to Spotify, users who watch a music video on the platform are 64% more likely to stream the same song again within the following three weeks. The company believes the new chart will strengthen its video ecosystem and further challenge YouTube’s dominance in the category.
