Skillet to release “Scream” single in July, announce “Comatose: 20 Years, Still Screaming” fall tour
Christian rockers Skillet have announced their new single “Scream”, arriving July 10, alongside their upcoming fall headline run, the “Comatose: 20 Years, Still Screaming Tour”, produced by Live Nation. The new track marks the first taste of a new musical era for the band, with additional releases expected later this year.
The announcement follows a remarkable start to the year for Skillet: their six-times-platinum anthem “Monster” recently surpassed 4 billion global streams, earning a place in Spotify’s Billions Club and cementing its status as one of the most-streamed rock songs of all time — a notable milestone, as “Monster” remains the only song by a Christian artist to surpass one billion streams on Spotify. The achievement follows the band’s completely sold-out European headline tour, which moved more than 90,000 tickets across 23 cities.
According to frontman John Cooper, the band returned to Memphis for the new material, working with a producer who had known the group before its first record. Cooper describes “Scream” as a song about wanting your life to matter when the world feels chaotic and overwhelming, a response to the volatility of social media, where people seem to be constantly yelling at each other. The track opens with clean electric guitar sliding into crushing distortion, underpinning a catchy, cathartic chorus. Fans first heard “Scream” live on May 14 at a concert in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The single’s release coincides with the announcement of a tour marking the 20th anniversary of the band’s platinum album “Comatose” (2006), the record that defined Skillet’s sound and trajectory. A large portion of the show will be dedicated to those songs, some of which the band has never performed live. The tour kicks off September 30 in Schenectady, New York, and wraps up November 10 in Orlando, Florida, with stops in Philadelphia, Boston, Detroit, Minneapolis, Denver, Seattle and Dallas. General ticket sales begin Friday, June 26, at 1:00 p.m. local time via LiveNation.com.
