Linkin Park to tell the story of their comeback in new documentary “Unshatter”
Linkin Park are preparing to release a new documentary film titled “Unshatter”, which will explore one of the most challenging chapters in the band’s history — the journey from the loss of Chester Bennington to their return to the stage with a renewed lineup.
The film will arrive in theaters on September 30, with tickets going on sale on August 13. The project was directed by Joe Hahn, Linkin Park’s DJ and creative director, who has also been responsible for many of the band’s visual concepts.
The documentary will cover the events of the past several years, from the band’s first studio sessions after their long hiatus to the creation of the album “From Zero” and their major performance in São Paulo. The film will feature previously unseen archival footage, behind-the-scenes moments, live performances, and interviews with the band members and fans.
Following the death of vocalist Chester Bennington in 2017, the future of Linkin Park remained uncertain. In 2024, the band entered a new era, with Emily Armstrong joining as vocalist and Colin Brittain taking over as drummer alongside Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Dave “Phoenix” Farrell, and Joe Hahn.
According to Joe Hahn, the documentary is not only about the band’s story but also explores broader themes such as friendship, loss, change, and the ability to move forward without having all the answers.
Alongside the film, Linkin Park will release a live album titled “Unshatter Film Soundtrack (Live in São Paulo)”. The record will feature live performances from different periods of the band’s career, including songs that will not appear in the documentary.
Mike Shinoda explained that the idea for the film developed gradually. As the band began returning to the creative process, they started documenting the journey, eventually realizing that the footage could become a record of Linkin Park’s new chapter.
A major milestone in the band’s comeback was the release of the single “The Emptiness Machine” and the album “From Zero”. The record received strong support from fans around the world and marked Linkin Park’s return to the forefront of global music. The expanded edition, “From Zero (Deluxe Edition), ” was released in May 2025.
