Glenn Hughes announces retirement from touring and live performances
Former Deep Purple bassist and vocalist, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Glenn Hughes, has announced that he will no longer continue with live performances or touring. According to the musician, the decision has been made for an indefinite period following medical advice.
In a message to his fans, Hughes revealed that he had undergone extensive medical examinations over the past year, and doctors concluded that he needs to undergo another heart surgery. The artist emphasized that his health is now his top priority.
The musician thanked his fans for their continued support throughout his career and said he feels fortunate to have dedicated his life to music.
Glenn Hughes’ final live performance took place on May 30, 2026, at the Arcada Theatre in Illinois. During the event, he joined the special project The Purple Daisies, featuring members of The Dead Daisies and a setlist that included songs from Deep Purple. Following Hughes’ announcement, the band’s planned October 2 performance in California was canceled.
Health issues had already affected the musician’s touring schedule. Earlier in 2026, he was forced to cancel his spring U.S. tour in order to focus on his recovery.
Hughes’ latest solo album, “Chosen, ” was released in September 2025. The record was followed by the “The Chosen Years” tour, which saw the musician perform across Europe and South America.
Throughout his decades-long career, Glenn Hughes has become one of the most respected figures in British rock. In addition to Deep Purple, he has performed with Trapeze, Black Country Communion, and The Dead Daisies, while also collaborating with artists including Tony Iommi, Robbie Williams, Joe Satriani, and Steve Vai.
