Festival Noches Mágicas 2026 is approaching its final night. This Thursday, August 6, the fourteenth edition of the festival closes its program with La Banda Sabinera in the Jardines de Abril of Sant Joan d’Alacant — bringing to an end two weeks of major concerts that have once again confirmed this space as one of the most distinctive cultural venues of the summer in the Alicante province. The closing act is fitting in the deepest sense: the musicians who spent decades alongside Joaquín Sabina on stage and in the recording studio, the same people who helped create and perform much of the work that forms part of the history of the Spanish-language song, will bring the curtain down on an edition that has been defined by artistic quality and outstanding audience response.
It is worth being clear about what La Banda Sabinera is and is not. It is not a tribute band. The musicians taking the stage in the Jardines de Abril are Antonio García de Diego, Mara Barros, Jaime Asúa, Laura Gómez Palma and Paco Beneyto — artists who were part of Sabina’s creative world for decades, who recorded with him, who toured with him through the most significant periods of his career, and who know this repertoire from the inside because they helped build it. They do not interpret these songs from a distance: they carry them within themselves as part of their own story.
The show is structured to deepen as the night progresses. In a first section, La Banda Sabinera performs pieces connected to their own artistic journey alongside the singer-songwriter — an insider’s perspective on a shared creative process spanning decades. The second section transforms the concert into something categorically different: members of the audience are invited onto the stage to perform some of Sabina’s most iconic songs together with the band. Each show becomes unrepeatable as a result — defined by closeness, complicity and an emotion that cannot be rehearsed, only experienced.
The Jardines de Abril open at 20:00, following the festival’s established tradition: time to walk the grounds, visit the art exhibitions that have accompanied the edition, browse the artisan market and take advantage of the gastronomic offerings before the music begins. At 20:45, the Escenario Jardín will host Óscar Ballester — an Alicante-based singer-songwriter with a solid track record within the local music scene — who will open the final evening of the festival and set the tone for what comes after.
The fourteenth edition of Noches Mágicas leaves behind a high-quality body of work. Two weeks in which the Jardines de Abril received Modestia Aparte and Toreros con Chanclas, Twenty 4 Seven, Double You, Just Luis and Viceversa, Miguel Campello, Ara Malikian, Israel Fernández, Nach, Ana Torroja — sold out — and Rodrigo Cuevas. An edition that, concert by concert, has demonstrated once again that the Noches Mágicas format — music, art, gastronomy and nature within a single space — remains one of the most coherent and compelling propositions in the province’s summer cultural calendar.
