Billy Corgan expands beyond music: The Smashing Pumpkins frontman lands TV deal for NWA
Billy Corgan, frontman of The Smashing Pumpkins, continues to extend his activity beyond the music scene. The artist has announced a new television deal for the National Wrestling Alliance, which he currently leads, bringing the project back to broadcast TV.
The promotion’s flagship show NWA Powerrr will premiere on Comet TV (a network of Sinclair Broadcast Group) in early May. The first episodes are scheduled for May 1 and 2, after which the program will move to a regular weekly slot.
For Corgan, who acquired NWA in 2017, this marks the most significant step in his effort to restore wrestling’s mass accessibility. In contrast to the streaming era, the new phase focuses on free-to-air television and a more direct connection with audiences — a model he has said reflects how he experienced wrestling growing up.
The next key event will be the Crockett Cup, set to launch in May as part of the updated programming slate.
Historically, National Wrestling Alliance has been a central force in the industry, associated with figures such as Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and Ricky Steamboat. Under Corgan’s leadership, the promotion is combining traditional storytelling with a new generation of performers.
At the same time, Corgan remains active in music: The Smashing Pumpkins released Aghori Mhori Mei in 2024, continuing a period marked by new releases and archival reissues.
The deal with Comet TV highlights a rare case in which an artist operates across two industries — music and wrestling — while maintaining creative control in both.
