Tash Sultana in Madrid: Instrumental Virtuosity and a Return to Musical Roots

Australian artist Tash Sultana will perform at Movistar Arena in Madrid as part of the Return to the Roots programme. A singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Sultana has developed a distinctive musical identity through a live performance style that brings vocals, guitar and a range of other instruments together in a richly layered sound. The concert will take place on 31 March 2027 and will be the artist’s only performance in Spain during the European tour.

Originally from Melbourne, Tash Sultana has established a musical language shaped by indie, alternative rock, funk and psychedelic influences. A defining element of the artist’s work is looping, a technique that allows musical phrases to be recorded and layered in real time. This approach enables Sultana to build intricate compositions on stage, combining multiple instrumental lines while maintaining the coherence and expressive character of the overall sound.

The concept behind Return to the Roots looks back to the foundations of Sultana’s artistic journey. The programme revisits songs that have influenced the artist’s musical development, presenting them through a distinctive personal interpretation. Acoustic arrangements, instrumental freedom and the characteristic use of looping stations form part of this approach. The Madrid concert will also feature Jeremy Loops, the South African singer, songwriter and producer, as a special guest.

The performance at Movistar Arena will bring together the defining elements of Tash Sultana’s live work: expressive vocals, remarkable multi-instrumental ability and close attention to the details of musical composition. The artist’s sound balances experimentation with melodic sensitivity, giving each instrumental layer a clear role within the performance.

The Madrid show is part of the EU UK Tour 2027, presented by Primavera Sound. The concert is scheduled to begin at 9:00 pm, with doors opening at 7:00 pm. Movistar Arena will provide the setting for a performance centred on live musicianship and the distinctive way Tash Sultana brings together a range of musical influences to create an individual sound.
