Queen is Preparing a “Reunion” in a Holographic Show Format
The legendary British rock band Queen is considering the possibility of creating a hologram show, similar in concept to ABBA Voyage. The idea is being discussed by the band’s members — Brian May and Roger Taylor — but at the moment it remains at an early, exploratory stage rather than an official announcement.
Brian May has noted that modern immersive technologies and venues like The Sphere in Las Vegas make it possible to “bring the concert experience closer” to what it might be with the original lineup — including the late vocalist Freddie Mercury. May emphasizes that the goal is not simply to present archival footage, but to create a new stage production in which virtual and live performers blend organically.
Roger Taylor has acknowledged that he saw the ABBA Voyage show and was left with “mixed feelings” — in his words, early projections do not always look convincing. However, he does not rule out that technology has significantly advanced and can now deliver a more realistic result.
There have also been actions related to the protection of Freddie Mercury’s legacy: the companies managing his rights have taken steps to register trademarks and authorize the use of Freddie Mercury’s image in digital formats, including 3D and VR. However, no official details — dates, venues, or technical partners — have been announced. The participation of the current Queen lineup and the balance between virtual and live performance remain unclear.
Potential advantages of the project include giving fans the chance to see a “reunited” Queen lineup through interactive technology. Modern visual tools could provide a new emotional experience and attract younger audiences. Challenges and questions include ethical concerns, technical realism, and the authenticity of combining live sound with virtual images.
At this stage, the project remains under discussion: the band is exploring possibilities and monitoring technological development, but no formal information has been released. Updates will follow as confirmed details become available.
