Arch Enemy Announces Departure of Alissa White-Gluz After 11 Years in the Band
Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy has officially confirmed the departure of vocalist Alissa White-Gluz, who has served as the group’s frontwoman since 2014. The announcement appeared on the band’s official social media, where the members thanked her “for the years of work, music, and the journey shared, ” adding a brief statement: “Where there is an ending, there is a new beginning. See you in 2026.”
11 Years in the Band and Key Albums
White-Gluz joined Arch Enemy in 2014, replacing Angela Gossow — one of the most influential figures in female growling vocals. Her arrival marked a turning point for the band: the first album featuring her vocals, War Eternal, became one of the group’s most successful releases in recent years and solidified Arch Enemy’s position on the global metal scene.
During her tenure, the band released four studio albums:
- War Eternal (2014)
- Will to Power (2017)
- Deceivers (2022)
- Blood Dynasty (2025)
These records significantly expanded Arch Enemy’s audience, and the band’s sound developed a more melodic and atmospheric character — largely thanks to White-Gluz’s blend of growling and clean vocals.
Health Issues Preceding Her Departure
In December 2024, White-Gluz was forced for the first time in her career to miss a show due to a severe bacterial infection during the band’s tour in Mexico. According to her own account, it was “the most painful and dangerous episode” of her life. Doctors diagnosed a rapidly spreading soft-tissue infection that required immediate antibiotic treatment.
Although she recovered and returned to performing, the incident became one of the significant factors influencing her subsequent career decisions.
Activism and Solo Projects
Throughout her time with Arch Enemy, White-Gluz was deeply engaged in social activism: she advocated for animal rights, supported environmental initiatives, and became one of the most prominent voices within the metal community promoting an ethical lifestyle.
In parallel, she developed a solo project characterized by a broader vocal range and a more experimental sound, incorporating progressive elements and atmospheric textures.
What’s Next for Arch Enemy?
For now, the band has not shared any further details — neither the reasons behind the split nor the identity of a potential new vocalist. The only hint about their next chapter is the phrase “See you in 2026,” which may signal the beginning of a new era: a new album, a tour, or the introduction of a new frontman or frontwoman.
At present, Arch Enemy’s official stance is one of respect, gratitude, and forward momentum.
