Ace Frehley’s guitar sells for $512,000 at auction

The legendary 1975 Gibson Les Paul owned by KISS co-founder Ace Frehley was one of the headline lots at Julien’s Auctions’ Music Icons sale. The instrument sold for $512,000, confirming its status as one of the most iconic guitars in rock history.

The auction took place on May 29–30 at Hard Rock Cafe Times Square in New York. Prior to the sale, experts had estimated the guitar’s value between $400,000 and $600,000.

This Les Paul accompanied Frehley throughout much of his career with KISS, used both on stage and in the studio. Over time, it became one of his most recognizable instruments and closely associated with his hard rock style.

Several other items from Frehley’s collection also achieved strong results. A 1997 Gibson Signature Les Paul Custom used during the Super Bowl XXXIII performance sold for $57,600, the same price paid for a custom 1996 Gibson Les Paul Jr. linked to KISS’s reunion tour. A Destroyer-era stage costume sold for $51,200.

The Music Icons auction, organized by Julien’s Auctions in partnership with Hard Rock Cafe, brought together a major collection of rock memorabilia, including instruments, stage outfits, and other items from some of the genre’s most influential artists.
