Spanish musician Víctor Coyote, pioneer of the Movida madrileña, dies at 68
Spanish musician and multidisciplinary artist Víctor Coyote (real name Víctor Aparicio Abundancia) died suddenly on Thursday, August 13, at age 68. He was found dead on a road near Segovia while out cycling; the exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Born in Tui, Pontevedra, in 1958, he founded the band Los Coyotes in 1979, which became one of the defining acts of Spain’s Movida madrileña movement and a pioneer of Latin rock in the country, with the 1985 album “Mujer y sentimiento” widely regarded as a landmark fusion of rockabilly and Latin rhythms.
The band split in 1991, but Coyote remained artistically active for the rest of his life, working as a painter, illustrator, comic artist and graphic designer, contributing to film and TV productions by Álex de la Iglesia and the series “Poquita fe, ” publishing books and occasionally acting.
