Former Arch Enemy singer Alissa White-Gluz launches new metal band Blue Medusa
Canadian singer Alissa White-Gluz, known to heavy music fans as the former frontwoman of Arch Enemy and the founder of The Agonist, has announced the creation of a new musical project called Blue Medusa. The launch of the band marks the beginning of a new chapter in the artist’s career following her departure from Arch Enemy in November 2025, after more than a decade with the group.
News about the new band of Alissa White-Gluz was revealed on March 8, when the singer introduced the project on social media, timing the announcement to coincide with International Women’s Day. According to the musician, the choice of date was intentional — she wanted to highlight the importance of supporting women in heavy music and creating new opportunities for female musicians within the metal scene.
The Blue Medusa project is centered around White-Gluz herself and two guitarists — Alyssa Day, known for her work with Mindscar and Absentia, and Dani Sophia, who previously collaborated with Till Lindemann’s solo project. For live performances, the band will also feature bassist Alicia Vigil (DragonForce, Vigil Of War) and drummer Delaney Jaster, known for her work with Stitched Up Heart. As a result, Blue Medusa will effectively appear on stage with an all-female lineup.
Alissa White-Gluz describes the new band as the next stage of her creative evolution. According to the singer, the project was conceived as a space where she could realize her own musical vision without limitations. In the sound of Blue Medusa, she promises to keep the elements that fans of extreme metal appreciate in her work: powerful guitar riffs, fast and aggressive drumming, extreme vocals and melody, along with deeper and more personal lyrics.
White-Gluz has been active on the global metal scene for more than twenty years. She first gained widespread recognition as the vocalist of the Canadian metalcore band The Agonist, and in 2014 she joined the Swedish melodic death metal group Arch Enemy, replacing Angela Gossow. During her time with the band, the group released several studio albums and toured extensively around the world, reinforcing its status as one of the most prominent acts in modern extreme metal.
After leaving Arch Enemy, the singer began actively working on new material and forming her own project. In recent months she gradually revealed the future Blue Medusa lineup, and has now officially presented the band to the public.
The first Blue Medusa concerts have already been scheduled: the band’s debut performances will take place at the major U.S. festivals Louder Than Life and Aftershock. The musicians have also confirmed that they are currently working on new material that will be presented to listeners in the near future.
For Alissa White-Gluz, the launch of Blue Medusa marks the beginning of a new chapter in her career — a project in which she intends to combine her years of stage experience, collaboration with new musicians, and her own creative ideas.
