Courtney Love Hints at a Hole Comeback as Fans Discuss Possible Tour by the Legendary Band
Talk about a possible return of Hole — one of the most influential alternative rock bands of the 1990s — has resurfaced online. The new wave of speculation was sparked by a social media post shared by Courtney Love. The musician posted a video featuring former band bassist Melissa Auf der Maur, accompanied by a cryptic caption: “So do we tell the kids about the tour @xmadmx ?”
The clip was set to “Malibu, ” one of the band’s best-known songs from the 1998 album Celebrity Skin. After the post appeared, fans immediately began discussing a possible Hole reunion and the likelihood of a concert tour that many listeners have been waiting for for years. In the comments, Auf der Maur replied with an equally intriguing message, writing: “It all begins with eternal love…, ” further fueling speculation about a potential joint project.
So far there has been no official confirmation of a Hole reunion or a tour announcement. Nevertheless, music media note that this is one of the clearest hints at a possible return from the band in recent years. Love has previously changed her position on the issue several times: in a 2021 interview with Vogue, for example, she stated that a full reunion of the band was “absolutely not happening.”
Interest in a potential comeback has also grown because Courtney Love and Melissa Auf der Maur have started working together again in recent years. Reports indicate that in 2024 the two met in the studio for the first time in more than two decades and recorded new music, marking their first collaborative work since the band’s peak years.
Hole was founded in 1989 in Los Angeles by Courtney Love and guitarist Eric Erlandson. The band quickly became one of the key acts of the alternative rock and grunge era. Their debut album Pretty on the Inside was released in 1991, while the real breakthrough came with Live Through This in 1994. The group later cemented its success with the album Celebrity Skin, which received Grammy nominations and brought the band international popularity.
Bassist Melissa Auf der Maur joined the band in 1994 after the death of previous member Kristen Pfaff and became a key figure in the later lineup of Hole. She participated in the recording and promotion of Celebrity Skin, but left the band in 1999. The group officially disbanded in 2002, although in 2009–2012 Courtney Love temporarily revived the project with a new lineup and released the album Nobody’s Daughter.
Today, discussions about the return of Hole coincide with new projects from both artists. In 2026, the documentary film “Antiheroine”, dedicated to Courtney Love’s life and career, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. At the same time, Melissa Auf der Maur is preparing to release her memoir Even the Good Girls Will Cry, in which she reflects on her musical career and her work with Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins.
Although there has been no official announcement, a single short social media message has already sparked intense reactions among fans and music media. And while it remains unclear whether this will lead to a full Hole reunion or simply joint appearances by Courtney Love and Melissa Auf der Maur, interest in the possible return of the legendary alternative rock band has once again reached a peak.
