Guitarricadelafuente’s song enters the Oscar race
Spanish musician Guitarricadelafuente (real name Álvaro Lafuente Calvo) has submitted his song “La Nieve” for Best Original Song Oscar consideration. The track, written and performed by him for the film “La Bola Negra, ” directed by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, was produced and co-written by Raül Refree. The song plays during one of the film’s most emotional scenes, set amid a snowfall near the end of the story.
The 28-year-old artist, in addition to composing the song, also makes his acting debut in the film, playing Sebastián, a nationalist soldier. Should he land a nomination, he could become only the fifth person in history to receive both acting and songwriting Oscar nominations for the same film, a feat previously achieved by Mary J. Blige (“Mudbound, ” 2018), Lady Gaga (“A Star Is Born, ” 2019), Cynthia Erivo (“Harriet, ” 2020) and Leslie Odom Jr. (“One Night in Miami, ” 2021). La Bola Negra, which follows three generations of Spaniards connected by Federico García Lorca’s last, unfinished play, was one of the breakout titles at Cannes and was acquired by Netflix for an awards-season run.
