Jay Weinberg Officially Leaves Suicidal Tendencies After Nearly Two Years With the Band

American drummer Jay Weinberg, previously known for his long-term involvement with Slipknot, has announced his departure from the legendary California band Suicidal Tendencies. The statement was published on January 11, 2026, via the musician’s official social media accounts, marking the end of nearly two years with the group.

In his message to fans, Weinberg noted that his time with Suicidal Tendencies was truly special. The drummer thanked the band members, the crew, and fans for the shared tours and live performances around the world, emphasizing that this chapter brought him invaluable experience and inspiration.

Explaining the reasons behind his decision, Jay Weinberg stressed that it was not related to conflicts or creative disagreements. According to the drummer, the choice was driven by personal circumstances. Weinberg revealed that he and his wife are expecting their first child and that he wants to focus on his family during this important stage of his life. In addition, the musician plans to devote more time to his own creative projects, which he has been developing alongside touring activities, including the expansion of his home studio and the completion of new musical ideas.

Weinberg also emphasized that his departure from Suicidal Tendencies is taking place on warm and respectful terms. He expressed sincere gratitude to the band and did not rule out future intersections, although his current priorities are shifting toward family life and independent work.

Jay Weinberg joined Suicidal Tendencies in early 2024 and made his live debut with the band in Osaka in March of the same year. At that time, the lineup included frontman Mike Muir, guitarists Dean Pleasants and Ben Weinman, and bassist Tye Trujillo, the son of Metallica’s Robert Trujillo. During his tenure, Weinberg performed dozens of shows across North America, Europe, and Asia, further solidifying his reputation as a versatile and in-demand drummer on the hardcore and metal scene.

Before joining Suicidal Tendencies, Weinberg spent nearly a decade as a member of Slipknot, from 2014 to 2023, and took part in the recording of three studio albums: .5: The Gray Chapter, We Are Not Your Kind, and The End, So Far. His departure from Slipknot in late 2023 came as a surprise to fans, and the drummer later admitted that he was deeply upset by the situation. He was subsequently replaced in Slipknot by Eloy Casagrande, formerly of Sepultura.

In addition to his work with major bands, Jay Weinberg continues to develop his own projects. Over the years, he has collaborated with Infectious Grooves, and in 2025 he released his debut solo track Sandstone, featuring George Clarke of Deafheaven. The musician has also confirmed that he is continuing work on a full-length solo release, which is expected to become the next important milestone in his career.

Weinberg’s departure from Suicidal Tendencies marks another significant turning point in the musician’s biography, reflecting his transition from a member of one of the world’s biggest metal bands to an independent artist with a clearly defined creative direction.
