Spain’s Ministry of Culture will not push to cancel Kanye West’s concert
The Madrid concert by Kanye West, also known as Ye, is set to go ahead as planned. Spain’s Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, confirmed that the ministry will not intervene or seek to cancel the event, despite strong criticism directed at the artist.
Speaking at a press conference for the Cine Vecino initiative, Urtasun described West’s recent remarks — including antisemitic statements — as “unacceptable” and “repugnant.” However, he emphasized that the Ministry of Culture does not regulate private concerts.
As a result, the final decision rests with the event’s promoters. In several European countries, West’s shows have already faced backlash, with some performances being canceled amid public pressure.
The concert at the Estadio Metropolitano is scheduled for July 30 and comes at a particularly controversial moment in the artist’s career. He is expected to present material from his new project BULLY, which he has framed more as an artistic statement than a commercial release.
The show will also mark his first performance in Spain in nearly two decades, following his last appearance in Barcelona in 2006.
