Shred Fest 2027 hits Spain: Obscura and Pestilence lead five-band extreme metal lineup
Technical death metal rarely arrives in Spain at this level of concentration. In February 2027, the touring festival Shred Fest brings one of the most formidable extreme metal lineups in recent memory to four Spanish cities. Leading the charge are German tech-death titans Obscura, celebrating their 25th anniversary with the longest European run of their career, and Dutch legends Pestilence — architects of the genre whose influence has never faded.
Formed in 2002 by Steffen Kummerer in Landshut, Obscura have spent over two decades redefining what technical death metal can be. Their latest album A Sonication (Nuclear Blast), the second chapter of a conceptual trilogy mixed by Fredrik Nordström, is the foundation of their current world tour — a relentless run of 39 consecutive European dates without a single day off. Pestilence bring a different kind of weight to the bill: founded in 1986 in Enschede, Netherlands, their records Consuming Impulse (1989) and the jazz-inflected Spheres (1993) remain touchstones of extreme metal. Patrick Mameli’s band has always moved on their own terms — and still does. Rounding out the lineup are UK avant-garde force Cryptic Shift, Denmark’s progressive death act Thus, and relentless French outfit DVRK.
Shred Fest plays Spain on February 5, 2027 at Wolf in Barcelona, February 6 at Revi Live in Madrid, February 7 at Custom in Seville, and February 10 at Totem in Villava (Pamplona).
