Iconic Noel Gallagher Guitar Goes to Auction: A Piece of Oasis’ Golden Era

One of the most iconic instruments associated with Noel Gallagher is going up for auction. The acoustic guitar was used by the musician during the writing and recording of (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, a landmark album in Oasis’ career. The item is estimated to fetch over €65,000.

The central lot of the sale is a signed Epiphone EJ-200 guitar, which will be offered through Sotheby’s. Also included in the auction are a 12-string Rickenbacker, used by Gallagher for around ten years, and a handwritten lyric sheet for Don’t Look Back in Anger.

According to Craig Inciardi, a pop culture specialist at Sotheby’s in New York, the instrument holds exceptional value for fans of the band. He noted that such items have long moved beyond their functional use and have become highly sought-after collectibles whose value continues to rise over time.

The guitar’s history further adds to its significance: it was originally gifted to a touring guitar technician, who later sold it to the current owner. The buyer is said to be a long-time Oasis fan with ties to the band’s circle during that period.

The value of the lot is also reinforced by the importance of (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, released in 1995. The album became one of Oasis’ most successful records and featured classic tracks such as Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova, Roll With It, and Some Might Say. It sold around 350,000 copies in its first week and went on to become the best-selling British album of the 1990s.

Worldwide sales have exceeded 22 million copies, securing its status as one of the biggest commercial successes in pop and rock music history.
