Pepsi ends sponsorship of Wireless Festival amid controversy over Kanye West’s participation

Pepsi has announced that it will end its sponsorship of London’s Wireless Festival following the announcement that rapper Kanye West (Ye) would be among the headliners. This ends the brand’s partnership with the event, which lasted more than ten years.

Previously branded as Pepsi MAX Presents Wireless, the festival drew public attention after the announcement of West’s performances, scheduled for 10–12 July. The company has not disclosed the official reasons for ending the partnership. However, the announcement came amid increased criticism from UK politicians and public organizations.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has previously expressed concern over West’s inclusion in the festival lineup, citing his past statements and actions that sparked public debate.

In recent years, the artist has repeatedly faced criticism for his public statements and creative projects. In particular, some of his material and remarks have been interpreted by parts of the public as offensive and controversial.

Amid the situation, a number of public figures have called for reconsidering the artist’s participation in the festival, as well as exploring the possibility of restricting his entry into the country under existing regulations.

Other companies have also announced their withdrawal from the event. In particular, Diageo, owner of several international brands, stated that it would withdraw support, citing reputational considerations.

The situation has sparked broad discussion about the role of sponsors and the criteria for selecting partners in the entertainment industry. As of publication, the Wireless Festival organizers have not announced any changes to the lineup.

UK Home Office officials noted that, at present, the artist has not submitted any requests related to entering the country.

Earlier, Kanye West publicly apologized for his statements, stating that he does not hold extremist views and attributing his behavior to his mental health.
