TVE to Broadcast Joaquín Sabina’s Final Concert: Farewell to a Legend of the Spanish Music Scene
Spain’s public broadcaster RTVE has announced the television broadcast of Joaquín Sabina’s final concert, marking the farewell of one of the most influential and recognizable singer-songwriters in the history of Spanish music. The television premiere will air on La 1 in prime time and is set to become one of the major cultural events at the beginning of the new year.
The broadcast features the concert from the final tour “Hola y adiós”, recorded on November 30, 2025, in Madrid, at the Movistar Arena. It was there that Joaquín Sabina took the stage for the last time, bidding farewell to his audience after decades of live performances. Around 12,000 spectators attended the concert, which for many became not just a musical event, but an emotional goodbye to an entire era.
The concert will air on January 2, 2026, with the broadcast starting at 10:00 p.m. local time. The prime-time slot underlines the special status of the event, as RTVE considers the concert a cultural television document of historical significance for Spanish music and national broadcasting.
In addition to the concert itself, viewers will see an exclusive interview with Joaquín Sabina, recorded especially for the broadcast. The conversation was conducted by renowned journalist Carlos del Amor, one of RTVE’s leading interviewers. During the interview, Sabina reflects on his career, recalls key moments of his artistic journey, and shares personal thoughts on his decision to retire from touring.
The farewell tour “Hola y adiós” became the final chapter of Sabina’s life on stage. Throughout 2025, he performed more than 70 concerts across Spain and Latin America, drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators. The artist repeatedly emphasized that this final concert was the most important of his life, as it symbolized a conscious and peaceful farewell to the stage rather than a forced departure.
Now 76 years old, Joaquín Sabina’s contribution to Spanish-language music is impossible to overestimate. His songs have long become part of the cultural identity of multiple generations, while his lyrics are studied and quoted far beyond the music world. For this reason, RTVE is not merely airing a concert, but preserving it as an element of Spain’s cultural heritage.
The national television premiere will allow millions of viewers to relive Joaquín Sabina’s final appearance on stage—the closing chord of a career whose name will forever remain etched in the history of Spanish music.
