Perry Bamonte, guitarist and keyboardist of the iconic British band The Cure, has died at the age of 65. The musician’s death was officially announced on December 26, Boxing Day. The statement appeared on the band’s platforms and was confirmed by several leading British media outlets.
According to the announcement, Perry Bamonte passed away at home after a short illness during the Christmas period. The cause of death was not specified, and no further comments were provided by the family or representatives of the band.
Perry Archangelo Bamonte had been closely connected with The Cure for several decades. His collaboration with the band began in 1984, when he joined the touring crew, working as a guitar technician and assistant to frontman Robert Smith. In 1990, following changes in the lineup, Bamonte became a full member of the group, taking on the role of guitarist and keyboardist.
As part of The Cure, the musician contributed to the recording of several landmark albums, including Wish, Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, and the self-titled album The Cure. He also took part in major world tours and performed in more than 400 concerts, becoming an essential part of the band’s live sound throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.
In 2005, Bamonte left the band during a lineup reshuffle, but his connection with The Cure did not end there. In 2019, he reunited with the group on stage during their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2022 he officially returned to the lineup, taking part in a large international tour that included dozens of shows across Europe and North America.
In addition to his work with The Cure, Perry Bamonte was involved in other musical projects, including the band Love Amongst Ruin, where he played bass guitar. He also worked as an illustrator and designer and enjoyed fly fishing in his spare time.
