Tony Iommi Confirms: New Solo Album by the Black Sabbath Legend to Be Released in 2026
Legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has officially confirmed that his long-awaited new solo album will be released in 2026. The musician shared the news in his New Year video message to fans, published at the end of December 2025.
While summing up the past year, Iommi spoke about his studio work and placed special emphasis on the solo project that has been surrounded by rumors for several years. He stressed that the release is not being postponed and will arrive as planned, adding that the album will come out “definitely, definitely” in 2026. This statement became the clearest confirmation of the project’s timeline to date.
According to Iommi, working on the material has been a genuine pleasure. The project was initially conceived as an instrumental album, but the concept evolved during the recording process. As a result, the guitarist decided to add vocal parts performed by a single singer, whose name has not yet been disclosed. This approach sets the upcoming release apart from his debut solo album Iommi (2000), which featured multiple guest vocalists, including Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Corgan, and Dave Grohl.
The first mentions of Tony Iommi’s new solo album appeared back in 2024. At the time, the guitarist noted that he had accumulated enough ideas for a full-length record rather than a collection of standalone tracks. In 2025, he confirmed that the project had entered an active phase and was gradually taking its final shape.
Alongside his solo work, Tony Iommi has also been involved in several high-profile musical projects in recent years. Notably, he recorded a guitar part for Robbie Williams’ single “Rocket”, which was included on the British artist’s new album. In addition, Iommi has taken part in various projects related to the legacy of Black Sabbath, including special events and retrospective releases celebrating the band’s history.
The upcoming record will be Tony Iommi’s third solo album, following Iommi (2000) and Fused (2005). Although the musician no longer tours due to health issues, he continues to work actively in the studio and remains one of the most influential figures in the world of heavy music.
The release of Tony Iommi’s new album in 2026 is expected to become one of the most significant events for fans of Black Sabbath, classic heavy metal, and the global rock scene as a whole.
