Peter Gabriel Announces New Album o/i: Music Released According to Moon Phases in 2026
Legendary British musician Peter Gabriel has officially announced the release of his eleventh studio album, titled o/i, which will be a highly anticipated follow-up to his previous project I/O (2023). The new album will be released throughout 2026 and will feature a unique concept: each song will be released according to the phases of the Moon.
According to the artist, the tracks will appear in two versions: a “Dark-Side Mix” during the full moon and a “Bright-Side Mix” during the new moon. This approach allows listeners to experience each song from different perspectives, creating a unique artistic experience. This concept was successfully applied during the release of I/O and will be repeated in the new album o/i.
The first single from the album, “Been Undone”, was released on January 3, 2026, during the first full moon of the year. The track was recorded and produced by Peter Gabriel himself at the renowned Real World Studios and The Beehive. Its Dark-Side Mix was created by engineer Tchad Blake, and the upcoming Bright-Side Mix is produced by Mark “Spike” Stent — the same specialists who worked on the previous album. The single’s cover features the visual artwork “Ciclotrama 156 (Palindrome)” by Brazilian artist Janaina Mello Landini, emphasizing the artistic dimension of the project.
Gabriel emphasizes that o/i is not just an album but a complete musical and artistic experience, filled with reflections on the future, technology, and human consciousness. Each track is accompanied by original visual artwork, making the project an innovative combination of music and art.
It is worth noting that I/O, released in 2023, was Peter Gabriel’s first album of original material in over 20 years. It was also released according to the lunar calendar with two mixes for each track, creating a new music release strategy that attracted worldwide attention.
o/i 2026 promises to be one of the most talked-about musical events of the year. The unique release schedule based on moon phases, the combination of dark and bright versions of songs, and visual artwork make the album an important cultural event and a true gift for Peter Gabriel fans.
