Lukas Magyar Leaves Veil of Maya: Vocalist Confirms His Exit and Brings a Decade-Long Chapter with the Band to an End
American progressive metalcore band Veil of Maya has officially parted ways with its vocalist. Lukas Magyar has confirmed that he is no longer a member of the group he had been associated with for more than ten years. The musician’s statement appeared in late December and quickly sparked widespread discussion within the metal community, as rumors of his departure had been circulating for several months.
The confirmation came through Magyar’s personal social media accounts: he removed mentions of Veil of Maya from his profile description and made it clear to fans that a return to the band is not an option. Responding to a fan question about a possible comeback, the vocalist stated briefly and unequivocally that if the band ever resumes activity, it will be without his involvement. With that, a long-standing chapter in the band’s history was officially closed.
Lukas Magyar joined Veil of Maya in 2014 and became a key figure during the band’s most successful and recognizable era. With his arrival, the group significantly expanded its musical boundaries, placing a stronger emphasis on melody, clean vocals, and a more structured progressive sound. Albums recorded with his participation — Matriarch, False Idol, and [M]other — each played an important role in shaping the band’s modern identity and strengthening its position on the international metal scene.
The split between the vocalist and the band had been developing for some time. In the fall of 2024, Veil of Maya announced an indefinite hiatus, canceled scheduled performances, and largely ceased public activity. At the same time, guitarist and band founder Marc Okubo began collaborating with Falling in Reverse, further increasing uncertainty about the project’s future. Since then, no official updates regarding the band’s return or new material have been released.
During this period, Lukas Magyar became increasingly focused on developing his own project, SIFYN, which he now intends to prioritize fully. According to the vocalist, working outside the framework of Veil of Maya allowed him to regain creative motivation and move in a new direction. It is also known that he has been collaborating with producer Joey Sturgis, well known on the modern heavy music scene for his work with Asking Alexandria and Of Mice & Men.
As of now, Veil of Maya has not issued a separate statement regarding the vocalist’s departure and has not revealed any concrete plans for the future of the band. It remains unclear whether the group will seek a new frontman or whether the hiatus will eventually become permanent. Nevertheless, Magyar’s exit has become a landmark event that effectively draws a line under an entire era in the band’s history.
For fans of modern heavy music, this news has become one of the most discussed stories of the year’s end: Veil of Maya in its current form appears to no longer exist, while Lukas Magyar is entering a new creative chapter, definitively closing a page that defined his career for the past decade.
