Mushroomhead Are Playing Barcelona — One Show, One Chance

Mushroomhead don’t pass through Spain often — and the organisers of Route Resurrection say exactly that when they announce this show: don’t overthink it, because the next opportunity might be years away. The American industrial metal pioneers are playing their only Spanish date of 2026 on August 5 at La 2 de Apolo in Barcelona, as an exclusive club show within the Route Resurrection 2026 programme.

The band formed in 1993 in Cleveland’s Warehouse District — the same industrial neighbourhood that shaped a generation of alternative and heavy music in Ohio. From the very beginning, Mushroomhead built something unlike anything else in the genre: masks, costumes, stage names, a horror-film aesthetic that was considered eccentric at the time and has since become one of the most recognisable visual identities in heavy music. Their second show ever, three days after their first, was opening for GWAR in front of 2,000 people. What followed was three decades of activity, ten studio albums, and a sound — alternative metal fused with industrial, electronics, nu metal and experimental textures — that consistently defied easy categorisation. Drummer and creative anchor Steve “Skinny” Felton is the only member who has been there since day one; the current lineup includes vocalists Steve Rauckhorst, Jackie LaPonza and Scott “Strike” Beck, guitarists Dave Felton and Joe Gaal, and several additional members that bring the full live lineup to eight people on stage. The well-documented rivalry with Slipknot — largely a fan-driven affair rooted in perceived visual similarities — became part of heavy metal folklore in the 2000s, though the two bands have always operated on sonically different frequencies, with keyboards and electronic layers sitting at the centre of Mushroomhead’s sound in ways they never did in Slipknot.

The Mushroomhead concert in Barcelona takes place at La 2 de Apolo — a mid-sized club where the distance between the band and the crowd is measured in metres. This is the kind of venue Mushroomhead have always preferred for their most concentrated shows: close, theatrical, full weight. Tickets available from €33 at route.resurrectionfest.es. Tickets on sale now.
