John Lennon’s Power to the People concert film hits cinemas April 29
The concert film Power to the People: John & Yoko Live in NYC, featuring John Lennon, Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band, will be released in cinemas worldwide on April 29 and May 3, 2026. Tickets go on sale March 20 at powertothepeoplefilm.com — a date chosen to mark what would have been John and Yoko’s 57th wedding anniversary.
The film captures two shows held on August 30, 1972, at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, drawing a combined audience of 40,000 people. They remain the only full-length concerts Lennon performed after the breakup of The Beatles. The events, part of the “One To One” benefit program, raised more than $1.5 million for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The restoration was led by Sean Ono Lennon, heading the couple’s Grammy Award-winning team. Every frame was cleaned by hand — both physically and digitally — and the audio was remixed and remastered. The new version is directed by Simon Hilton, who helmed the Oscar-winning animated short War Is Over! The setlist features “Imagine”, “Instant Karma!”, “Mother” and “New York City”, alongside Yoko Ono tracks. Special guests at the original concerts included Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack, Melanie and Sha Na Na.
