La Liga Femenina

Mala Rodríguez and Ivy Queen front 'La Liga Femenina', the first all-female album in Latin urban music

La Liga Femenina dropped on March 6th as a genuine first: the debut all-female collaboration album in the history of Latin urban music. Produced by Boy Wonder CF and Charlee Way — a project that took them nearly a year to complete — it gathers 19 tracks performed by 19 artists spanning multiple generations, countries and styles, from Puerto Rico to Spain.

Leading the record are two women who helped build the genre from the ground up: Ivy Queen and Mala Rodríguez. The Puerto Rican reggaeton pioneer has spent over two decades earning her crown; Spain’s Mala Rodríguez remains the defining figure of Spanish rap and urban music. The full lineup includes Mariah Angeliq, Bellakath, Amara La Negra, J Noa, Nesi, Chesca, Irania, Keyshita, Babywine, Chelsy, Queen Parker, Ysa C, Soley, Vale Pintos, Valentina Olguin, Loyaltty and Naddia — another Spanish voice on the project.

Charlee Way told EFE they recorded more than 30 artists before selecting the final nineteen: “the best talent from each country.” Ivy Queen told Billboard the process was “ambitious” — bringing a group of women together, she said, “seems very easy from the outside, but from the inside it’s very difficult.” The album is out now on all streaming platforms.
