Dark City Fest 2026

Dark City Fest 2026: Benidorm braces for Europe’s darkest weekend

Under the deliberately ironic motto “Holidays in the Sun”, Dark City Fest returns to Benidorm for its second edition across two full nights — 29 and 30 May 2026 — at Sala Penélope. What began as a bold experiment in pairing beach-town Spain with the darker end of European music is now a fixture on the continent’s gothic rock, EBM and darkwave calendar. This year the festival expands to three stages, more than 25 bands and 14 confirmed DJs, a scale that matches its ambitions.

The headliners alone justify the trip. Finnish veterans The 69 Eyes top the bill with their distinctive goth 'n' roll — gothic atmospheres built over classic rock structures, refined over three decades. Turkish duo She Past Away have become one of the defining acts of contemporary post-punk, their minimal and melancholic sound earning them audiences far beyond the underground. Canada’s Front Line Assembly bring pioneering electro-industrial and EBM, while Germany’s Project Pitchfork complete a headline four that spans the full breadth of the dark music spectrum. Further down the bill: Spain’s Ana Curra (Parálisis Permanente, Movida Madrileña), Diary of Dreams, Kirlian Camera, Suicide Commando, Leæther Strip, Escape with Romeo, Rome, The Invincible Spirit and many more — plus DJ sets running through to sunrise.

The visual contrast between Benidorm’s sunlit tourist seafront and the festival’s black-clad crowd is part of the point. Fantaxtik Events have built a concept around that tension, and it works. Doors open on 29 May at 19:00.

Tickets are on sale via Mutick from €20, with prices rising as the dates approach. Over-18s only.
