Burning — 50 Years of Spanish Rock-and-Roll: heritage, power, legacy

The band Burning, founded in 1974 in Madrid’s La Elipa district, is celebrating a landmark milestone: 50 years of continuous rock operation. Frontman Johnny Cifuentes remains the sole surviving member of the original lineup and continues to lead the band with unwavering rock-and-roll spirit.

Over the decades, Burning has become a cornerstone of Spanish rock: not necessarily dominating sales charts or massive arenas, yet their influence runs deep. Their music fuses classic rock-and-roll, rhythm & blues, and a Madrid-born attitude — gritty, authentic, nostalgically charged.

Switching to Spanish lyrics in the late 1970s, the band produced tracks such as “¿Qué hace una chica como tú en un sitio como este?” and “Mueve tus caderas”, which have since become pillars of the Spanish rock canon. On the occasion of their 50th anniversary, the band emphasizes their forward-looking energy: “the past is unchangeable, the future is uncertain; one must bite into the present, ” says Johnny Cifuentes.
