Hoobastank release first original song in nearly a decade, “How Do You Sleep?”
Hoobastank are back with new music. The California alt-rock band have released “How Do You Sleep?”, their first original single in close to ten years. The track made its live debut at the Vans Warped Tour, which kicked off last weekend in Washington, D.C.
The release marks a reunion with producer Howard Benson, the collaborator behind some of the band’s most defining work in the 2000s. Vocalist Doug Robb described the new recording process as a creative release — a “pressure valve” being opened after years — and noted that Benson offered more freedom this time around than in previous sessions. Benson himself recalled being so struck by the volume and strength of the material the band brought in that he booked studio time on the spot, while still listening, to avoid losing momentum.
“How Do You Sleep?” channels the raw energy, driving riffs and melodic directness of the band’s self-titled debut, while reflecting the evolution of a group now well into its third decade. The release arrives during a genuine cultural resurgence for Hoobastank: the viral TikTok trend #NotAPerfectPerson, the inclusion of “The Reason” in Netflix’s “Beef” in 2023 — which sent the song back into the iTunes Rock charts and onto Shazam’s US Top 200 — and the band’s appearances in “Building The Band” (Netflix) and “The Boys” (Amazon) have introduced the group to a new generation of listeners. The band currently draws over 14 million monthly listeners on streaming platforms.
Spanish fans won’t have to wait long to see them live: on June 19, Hoobastank are scheduled to perform at O Son do Camiño at the Monte do Gozo site in Santiago de Compostela, sharing a bill with Linkin Park and Biffy Clyro. The Galician festival has sold out every edition since its launch in 2018 and stands as one of the biggest open-air music events in Spain.
