Rock Imperium 2026 in Cartagena: five years in, the biggest and boldest lineup yet
On July 3, 4 and 5, 2026, Cartagena hosts the fifth edition of Rock Imperium Festival — and by every available measure, this is the most ambitious version of the event yet. Iron Maiden, Sabaton and Within Temptation lead a three-day programme at Parque El Batel that brings together more than thirty bands spanning the full range of heavy metal: classic British iron, epic battle metal, symphonic power, progressive thrash, American groove and Spanish underground, all in a setting beside the Mediterranean that no indoor arena in northern Europe can replicate.
The lineup breaks down by day as follows. Friday, July 3 opens under Within Temptation’s headline slot, with Mastodon, The Gathering, Lacuna Coil, Crimson Glory, Grand Magus, Avulsed, Triskel, Rockin' Ladies, Heleven and EvilacT filling out a night that stretches from gothic metal to progressive sludge and Spanish death. Saturday, July 4 belongs to Iron Maiden — a band that has been defining the genre since 1975 and whose live production remains among the largest and most elaborate in rock — joined by Anthrax, H.E.A.T, Blues Pills, Wings of Steel, 4 Bajo Zero and Presa. Sunday, July 5 closes the festival with Sabaton headlining alongside Testament, Trivium, Queensrÿche, Crazy Lixx, Dogma, Uada, Hagane, Latzen, Doble Esfera and Estrella Negra.
Five editions have turned Rock Imperium from a regional festival into one of the most serious metal festival destinations in Europe. The Parque El Batel site, located at the edge of Cartagena’s historic port city with three thousand years of layered history behind it, gives the event an atmosphere that feels qualitatively different from the standard festival field. With capacity already above the 90% mark and weeks still to go, the organisers' claim that this will be a historic edition is not promotional language — it is a scheduling fact. Three-day passes start at €95 plus booking fees. Single-day tickets are available at rockimperiumfestival.es and madnesslive.es.
