El Kanka Brings La Calma to Alicante: Spanish Songwriting at Its Most Alive
El Kanka is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Spanish singer-songwriter music. Born Juan Gómez Canca in Málaga in 1982, he has spent fifteen years building a career on craft and authenticity rather than trend-chasing — and it shows. Over a million monthly listeners on Spotify, twenty tracks past the million-stream mark, and a sold-out Teatro Ópera in Buenos Aires in October 2025. His current La Calma Tour launched in Seville in March 2026 and will close at the Movistar Arena in Madrid in November 2027. Alicante comes in April.
La Calma, released in February 2026, is his seventh studio album and arguably his most coherent statement to date. Ten new songs that move between rumba, bolero, son, ska and pop — not as a genre exercise, but as the natural language of an artist who absorbed Latin American folk music and Spanish roots equally. “La Apuesta” is a Brazilian-tinged rumba about love as a wager. “Pensando en ti” wraps a bolero in ska rhythms with a Beatles-inflected intro. “Ansiedad” tackles anxiety with clarity and without drama. The title track stakes its claim quietly: “Ojalá un mundo distinto… ojalá la calma” — a wish for stillness in a noisy world.
The Alicante show takes place on April 18, 2026 at Marmarela (Muelle de Levante, 14). Doors open at 8:00 PM, with the set running until 10:30 PM.
