Wucan in Madrid: Vintage Hard Rock, Flute and Psychedelia at Sala Rockville
On October 14, 2026, German band Wucan performed at Sala Rockville in Madrid, presenting material from their 2025 album “Axioms” alongside songs from different stages of their career.
The Dresden-based group brought together classic hard rock, psychedelia and experimental sounds while maintaining their distinctive musical identity.
Francis Tobolsky and Wucan’s Signature Sound
The concert began at around 8:10 PM with “Spectres of Fear”. The setlist featured 11 songs, including “Irons in the Fire”, “Don’t Break the Oath”, “Kill the King”, “Night to Fall”, “Fette Deutsche”, “Pipe Dreams” and “Physical Boundaries”.
The central figure of the performance was Francis Tobolsky, the band’s vocalist, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, whose flute and theremin help define Wucan’s signature sound.
During “Irons in the Fire”, Tobolsky used the theremin, adding experimental textures to the composition. “Pipe Dreams” showcased Wucan’s psychedelic side, while “Kill the King” and “Spectres of Fear” highlighted their heavier, guitar-driven sound.
One of the evening’s notable moments came with “Fette Deutsche”. Before performing the song, Tobolsky expressed her opposition to Nazism, after which the band delivered the track in German.
From Heavy Riffs to Psychedelia
The beginning of the performance was somewhat restrained. Gradually, the musicians gained momentum, and both the vocals and instrumental interplay became more confident.
Wucan demonstrated a combination of classic hard rock, progressive elements and psychedelic passages. The flute and theremin were not merely decorative instruments but integral parts of the band’s musical approach.
Towards the end of the concert, a minor technical issue arose while Francis Tobolsky was adjusting her guitar. The musicians continued playing before completing the set.
Final Thoughts
Wucan’s Madrid performance showcased the band’s musical identity. Eleven songs brought together heavy guitar riffs, vintage aesthetics and psychedelic experimentation.
Despite some unevenness at the beginning and a technical interruption towards the end, the band delivered an expressive set with a notable emphasis on “Axioms”.
Sala Rockville provided the setting for Madrid audiences to experience Wucan’s distinctive sound: energetic, experimental and deeply rooted in the traditions of classic rock.
